Introduction
  • 8 beats: Honor your partner.
    • Gentlemen bow and Ladies curtsy.
Verse
  • 8 beats: Cross over one couple.
    • First Lady crosses behind the second Gentleman to take the second Lady's place, while the first Gentleman crosses behind the second Lady to take the second Gentleman's place (second couple move up). The first Gentleman must not attempt to pass before his partner, that is, in crossing from his own side in going down the Dance, he must pass her on the right hand.
  • 20 beats: Set contrary corners.
    • 4 beats: First Lady crosses to second Gentlemen while the first Gentleman crosses to third Lady.
    • 4 beats: First Lady sets to second Gentleman while first Gentleman sets to third Lady.
    • 4 beats: First Lady crosses to third Gentleman while first Gentleman crosses to second Lady.
    • 4 beats: First Lady sets to third Gentleman while first Gentleman sets to second Lady.
    • 4 beats: First Lady and first Gentleman return to places.
  • 4 beats: First couple set.
Pre-chorus

  • 16 beats: Chain figure of six.
  • 16 beats: Hands three on the Ladies’ side and pass under.
    • 8 beats: FIG. I. Third couple and first Lady circle round so the 3s switch places, then third couple hold hands up and first Lady passes under back to her place.
    • 8 beats: FIG. II. Third couple and first Gentleman circle round so the 3s switch back to places, then third couple hold hands up and first Gentleman passes under back to his place.
Repeat whole dance from progressed position.

Notes: The dance does not start with the chorus like the song does, so prepare your recorded or live music accordingly. You will need an ASCAP license to use the song at your event if it qualifies as a public performance (check with ASCAP) and your venue doesn't have a blanket license (check with your venue).
